<19/02/2003>
At around 12 months we thought we heard Oliver say the words "water" and "bubble" but they have since had little use. A couple of months later he started using his own words/sounds for certain objects, these namely are:
Wah Wah Wah | Aeroplane |
Diggar Dah | Helicopter |
Choo Cho | Train |
La La La | Lorry |
Nee Nar | Ambulance/Police/Fire Engine or anything with a siren |
Wee Wee | Unfortunately not referring to urinating but believe it or not 'wheels' |
Uh Oh! | Oh dear! |
Laaaa | Lion |
Sssss | Snake |
Ow Ow Ow | Monkey |
Oliver has now been saying the odd words for a couple of months but I haven't thought to make a note of them until now and so the order may not be precisely right:
Water | A word we're sure he said but not used anymore |
Bubble | First used for blown bubbles with a wand at around 12 months then later for other things, including baubles on the Christmas tree Dec 2002 |
Dirty | I distinctly remember this first being used in Aug 2002. Has recently become a word he uses when he soils his nappy too |
Tractor | Extended use of word to diggers or any other similar vehicle and also anything referring to Bob the Builder (his advent calendar in Dec 2002 and then his jigsaw after Christmas) |
Mamma | That'll be me |
Dadda | That'll be Simon (although he does also assume anyone on the phone is Dadda and occassionally odd men in the street) |
Ball | One of the few words that is a fairly traditional first word |
Gone | With upturned hands |
More | Also used to mean 'again' |
Teddy | Picked up from Andy Pandy and used for his teddy he likes to cuddle when tired |
Up there | Initially when referring to aeroplanes in the sky |
Car | His most used word for Jan/Feb 2003, especially for his favourite computer game/film - The Italian Job |
No | Much used once learnt - Feb 2003 |
Me | Usually with a finger pointing to his tummy |
Open | Usually chocolate wrappers or else car door (including toy cars that don't have opening doors!) |
Door | First used when Simon re-hung the bathroom door to swing the other way, something which Oliver seemed to have much admiration for his Dad in doing |
Clean | Usually referring to a clean nappy as apposed to a dirty one |
Wall | First used when we were wallpapering our bedroom and kept telling him not to touch the wall |
Go | Picked up from playing The Italian Job game on the computer. |
Two | The number two, he knows that more than one is two, but he doesn't know what one is, so counting down, from three to one ,it's "two two two, go". Picked up from playing The Italian Job game on the computer. |
Upstairs | Derivation of "Up there". |
Normal | Not big, or small, but normal. |
Kick | a ball, etc. |
Hair | Same pronounciation to mean 'head', 'hat' and 'hair', said with a dropped H. |
Shoe | |
Share | If he doesn't want you to have something all to yourself. However, this doesn't seem to work the other way around |
Van | as in ice-cream van |
Bye Bye | Good bye. Quite obvious and clear |
Hot | as in hot tap |
Cold | as in cold tap, he thinks he can mix his own bath |
Big | |
Mini | as in Mini Car, from about April 2003, when Auntie Ellie got her mini on the road. |
Purple | currently, his favourite colour |
Blue | |
White | |
Yellow | |
Eat | as in "Eat big pepper" |
Pepper | (Red, Yellow, Green etc). Eats them raw. |
Apple | |
Baby | his baby sister, also pictures of himself as baby. |
Walk | in the park, to play kick ball. |
Wheels | (as of May 2003, he differentiates wee-wee and wheels) |
Nanny | both grandmothers |
Our | not someone else's |
His words are currently coming at a rate of about one a week so it's easy to keep track but hopefully they'll start coming more quickly soon...
