Road Rage: Why is everyone so angry?
Whoever heard of pedestrian rage?
I'm defining "pedestrian" as someone who walks. Not in a car. Not on a skateboard, rollerblades, bicycle. Not necessarily crossing a street.
I'll tell you a little something about what bugs me. What bugs me is that as a pedestrian with a mission (to get from A to B), I'm utterly frustrated by other pavement users who park themselves in the middle of the street. I'm peeved by people who dawdle around getting in the way. It's a well known fact that in the middle of many city centres these days that it should be quicker to walk than drive. However, if the pavements are cluttered by tourists taking photos of telephone boxes, I'm just feel like pushing past without so much as an "Excuse me, I have a place to be".
Escalators: I'm FED UP with going up or down an escalator, especially in a department store, where the escalator is moving at a sensible speed. Many people get a sudden attack of amnesia at the top of an escalator. They step off it and then stand still, forgetting their original motive for boarding the escalator. Meanwhile, twenty people are having to walk backwards on the escalator to avoid a pile up.
Jaywalking: Pedestrians were on the roads millenia before the motor car, therefore they have just as much right to be on there as motor vehicles. This doesn't mean that pedestrians have the right to rush out in front of speeding vehicles. That's just daft. What I mean is that when a car approaches at high speed a pedestrian in the process of crossing an otherwise perfectly clear road, then the car should at least slow down. Even when the pedestrian isn't crossing at an official crossing point.
